Filming a full length music video for While She Sleeps
getDELUXE is the digital portfolio of Thomas Welsh, multimedia designer currently living in Edinburgh UK. Past work includes industry experience in print, web and flash design, in addition to press and digital marketing duties.
I am currently in my final year studying Interactive Media Design at Edinburgh Napier University. To find out more about me click here.
I'm really happy to finally launch the full We Own website, store and video. After a month's hard work by myself and the We Own team, including trips around Scotland and assistance from many amazing people, the brand new site & video is available at weown.org.
The center peice is the Summer promo video, addressing a fresh look at clothing advertising, particularly focusing on the lifestyle aspect of the brand. This was coupled with a full redesign of the website and store.
We've had an enormous amount of good feedback, particularly notable is the store being featured by Big Cartel as their Featured Store and some very healthy web stats.
My portfolio is looking a bit out of date at the moment, and I'm not going to have much of a chance to update in anytime soon, so the best way to see my latest work is in this section.
Future plans for the site include implementation of the Tumblr blogging platform into this page, to ease with update and provide tracking/RSS feeds, as well as a serious update of my Portfolio and the rest of the site.
After working (insanely) hard through april to finish my honours project, I have now completed my course in Interactive Media Design. I'm happy to report all pointers indicate towards a First Class Degree, which I'm very happy with. I'd say I was looking forward to the time off, but that totals a very short week (which I made a little videoof) before I have things to do.
Numerous projects in the pipeline, first some really exciting work for clothing brand We Own. There's a little teaser video up on there website on vimeo, be sure to check it out.
I will also be working a placement at Realise digital agency in Edinburgh, in addition to some freelance web design and video projects.
I've just launched a micro-site to support my final project for of my honours degree.
SumAntics is an active sculpture produced from discarded IT equipment. Nearby Bluetooth device names provoke searching of the Internet for subjective content, with results displayed on multiple screens. It’s purpose is to confront the audience with their online footprint, and aims to address notions of digital trails, wireless presence identification and the emotion we embed in the Internet.
The site can be found at http://sumantics.thomaswelsh.com. Questions or feedback? Let me know.
Video trailer for the upcoming mini album from While She Sleeps. Check out their myspace for the full HD experience!
The video was shot in a single day with a brief of reflecting the bands persona and attitude, combined with the recording and practice of new material.
Short promotional video of a new track 'Temptations Let Go' by Scottish band Dead Robots. Watch it in full on vimeo.
I also recently did a poster design for them, where we experimented with using a QR code with a link to the video on youtube, so the video could be watched wherever the poster was sighted. To read more about that and see a video demo click here.
Welcome to getDELUXE, the digital portfolio of Thomas Welsh.
There's been a bit of delay with trips away and university work but I'm pleased to finally set this thing live! The site has been built with alot more Javascript (particularly jQuery) than I've used before so it's been quite a learning curve.
I'm very interested in any feedback you have about the website, and would greatly appreciate an email or a tweet with any thoughts you have (or bugs you find!)
I'll be publishing any new work to my portfolio, as well as other relevant updates to this page in time. Keep checking back as I'll try and update with any interesting happenings.
Just returned from an amazing trip to transmediale arts & media festival in Berlin.
Saw lots of interesting work and some hugely inspiring pieces for my honours project, which I've written a little about on the projects' blog
The festival is something I'd highly recommend and definately consider going again to in the future. You can see pictures of the visit and of Berlin on my flickr.
As I'm in my final year of university I'm currently undertaking an honours project, which accounts for 50% of my grades in 4th year.
I will be creating an art installation focusing on the presentation of online media in the physical space, controlled by those around using mobile phone bluetooth capabilities. I'm keeping a blog on the project updated with my latest developments, designs and thoughts.
I seem to have a bit of a thing about timelapse videos - I've got numerous sequences waiting to be compiled on my hard drive as well as a few already edited...
This is a latest video I took driving from Edinburgh to Leeds over Christmas. I've found it works better with longer exposure shots at night, especially in urban areas.
You can find more of my videos on vimeo.
My flash animation 'Lonely Days' was recently featured in a showcase of university work broadcast on Edinburgh Big Screen. Despite the work being a couple of years old, it was great to see it broadcast on such a large scale.
The showcase was the first example of a partnership between my university and the Big Screen, and we should be receiving a curated brief in the future.
